MECHANICAL - ASSIST MOVABLE SHELVING
SPECIFICATIONS
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Scope: The
vendor will furnish factory trained labor, materials, equipment, special
tools, and service required to provide a complete and ready-to-use
Mechanical - Assist high density movable aisle system as specified and shown
on drawings. Substitutions or deviations from the specifications and
drawings must be submitted with each bid and itemized in writing with
detailed product drawings indicating each substitution and deviation.
1.2
Manufacturers Qualifications:
A. To insure the highest standard of uniformity and quality control,
acceptable manufacturers of the high density movable storage system shall be
those which are fabricated in the U.S.A. from all American made parts. The
track, carriage, end panels and shelving components are to be manufactured
at one location from sheet, bar and tubular steel stock. Assembly type
manufacturers and/or manufacturers who do not manufacture all
major components will not
he considered.
B. The model offered shall have been manufactured for a period of five
years with all engineering updates and the manufacturer shall have a
national reputation as a producer of the specified product.
C. Local vendor to provide factory-trained personnel
and inventory all parts locally.
Vendor shall provide four - hour response time during normal working
hours. Vendor
must be an authorized dealer for manufacturer with in-house service
personnel on staff
This system cannot be provided by sub-dealers, brokers or unauthorized
agents.
1.3 Related Work
By Others
This system shall he installed on a Floor which is properly prepared by
others and finished in accordance with these
specifications
1.4 Submittals: All
bidders are required to submit with their bid, manufacturer's general
catalog, actual color swatches and hardware and component specifications
which include detailed drawing indicating all dimensional, material, and
design information pertaining to the quoted system.
1.5 For
uniformity and appearance, all carriages, steel end panels and shelving
shall be identical color, where specified, as selected from manufacturer's
actual color charts. Paint is to be double coat of high quality baked
enamel, electrostatically applied, capable of with standing severe hammer
and bending test with no flaking. For surfaces that are hard to cover
electrostatically, they must be hand sprayed prior to entering the baking
oven, allowing uniform and complete coverage.
1.6 Warranty: The manufacturer shall guarantee all
parts, with exception of lamps, for a period of 10 years.
1.7 Contract Award: The owner reserves the
right to reject any and all bids and award this contract on the basis of
highest value, quality and compliance with this specification. An owners rep
will verify specifications at the time of delivery. Any deviation from the
bid specs may result in rejection of product. Product must be from a GSA
approved vendor.
2.0 PRODUCTION SPECIFICATION:
2.1 Rails: Rails
shall be minimum 1045 steel bar stock of minimum 1-1/2" wide x
3/4" high. Leveling pads and floor anchors shall be on minimum 9"
centers on both sides of rail along the entire length of each rail with
steel shims (to level) at each floor anchor. Each pad shall be anchored with
two lag bolts set into floor anchors. There shall be a minimum of two guide
rails per system.
2.2 Rails
to be leveled by surveyors transit or laser
and leveled to or - 0.
2.3 Plywood (particle board not acceptable) will be
utilized between rails to 1/8" below rail surface for tile or 1/4"
for carpet.
2.4 Final floor to be flush - no
gaps at side of rail, i.e., no tripping hazards
2.5 Stainless
Steel Ramp (5 degree slope) at
front of system. Ramp shall not extend beyond front end of panel.
2.6 ~Wheels shall be precision steel and rest
on sealed self- lubricating pillow blocks on both sides of the wheel
assuring smooth operation. At least two wheel frames on each base shall have
a center guide to fit precisely into guide rail. Al wheels must be a minimum
of 5" in diameter. Wheels shall be precision ground and have a Brinell
hardness of 207/285. Wheel frames to be welded from 10 Ga. minimum steel.
2.7 Shafts -
solid steel. All wheels to be driven. Systems
without all wheels driven will not be acceptable.
2.8 Carriage Section "C"
shape 11 Ga. minimum - 1000 lbs. per foot rating
2.9 Shelving uprights - I - 1/2" x 1-1/2"
square tubular stock 16 Ga. minimum. A minimum of three horizontal
"C" channel stiffeners must be employed for strength. Flat
horizontal members not acceptable. Uprights must be precision recessed
5" into carriages and side boiled with 1/4" nut, bolt and lock
washer to eliminate "sheer". Surface mounting of uprights is not
acceptable nor is the use of sheet metal (Teck) screws.
2.10 Shelves - Straight through shelves not
acceptable. All shelves on all ranges will have backstops. All back stops
will be independently removable, without tools, to allow full range width at
the required level when needed. Shelves on all ranges will have 18 Ga. steel
side fillers (supports) which will prevent media from becoming trapped or
hidden behind the front shelf uprights.
2.11 Canopy tops - all ranges must provide
canopy tops which are BOLTED
to uprights to achieve a one-piece
"monolithic" structure to avoid racking and tipping.
2.12 FrontPanel- Front Panels shall be fabricated of
minimum 20-gauge steel. Each panel shall be 'box formed' to a maximum depth
of 2-3/4" to completely cover all drive mechanisms both front and back.
Each double face panel shall have (2) 4" high x 6" wide index card
holder, while single face sections shall have (I) card holder. Front panels
shall be removable from front to allow access to all mechanical elements. No
plastic laminate panels will be acceptable.
2.13 Turning Handle: Single-spoke type with
free wheeling hand grip. The drive chain from the turning handle shall
operate a two-stage gear reduction with a minimum #35 drive shaft. The drive
shaft shall be solid stock with keyed coupling and driving one wheel on each
rail over the entire range length. Three-handled drill press handles will
not be acceptable. Each mechanism must allow operator to comfortably move a
mass of 30,000 lbs.
2.14 Safety: Each movable range shall include an aisle
locking safety mechanism. Access to the lock plungers shall be on the side
of the front panel in the opening aisle. Front-mounted, anti-roll lock will
not be acceptable.
Auto-lock (optional) is a passive automatic aisle lock that engages as a
result of turning the opening crank handle. No additional operation by the
clerk shall be required to automatically set the aisle lock.
Auto lock release (optional) is a device that is used in conjunction with
dual-entry carriages and the auto-lock option. The device allows an operator
to release the safety from either entry point.
2.15 Minimum Component Gauges

Seismic overhead anti-tip metal brackets (optional) with two hardened
rollers shall be bolted to the cross piece of the welded upright. Overhead
devices which are attached to the canopy shelf will not be acceptable.
Aisle lighting (optional)
WARRANTY: The manufacturer shall guarantee all parts with
exceptions of lamps for a period of 10 years from installation

EQUIPMENT STANDARDS
These specifications and drawings will be the standard by which the bid
proposal will be judged and evaluated by the owner. All equipment must be equal
to or higher than the standard defined. The owner shall be the sole judge of
equivalency. Bid submittal will be expected to be in strict compliance
with all specifications, drawings, conditions, and terms and the bidder will be
held liable for conformance. The manufacturer shall agree to take out and
replace, at his own expense, all portions of the work, which, in any way, do not
conform to bid specifications.
INTERPRETATION OF DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS:
The present and future storage requirements of the owner require strict
adherence to dimensions and data in the specifications and detailed in the
drawings. If any prospective bidder is in doubt as to the true meaning or any
part of these specifications or drawings, he should submit his request in writing
to:
WARRANTY
The manufacturer shall guarantee all work installed under this contract:
· rails and mobile carriages shelving units
for a period of 10 years from the date of completion. The manufacturer shall
agree to replace or repair, at his own expense, all portions of the work which
proves in any way defective. The manufacturer agrees to pay for all damage to
other work resulting from such repairs or replacement
